Day 1 USA or Canada – Depart by overnight flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Day 2. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Afternoon, city tour of Buenos Aires, an impressive city that combines the atmosphere of an old European town with that of a Latin American capital. In this tour, you will acquire a greater appreciation of its characteristics, its history, its architecture, its culture and its best stories. We will visit the center of the city, San Telmo, La Boca, Puerto Madero and Palermo, and stops in Plaza de Mayo, Caminito and La Recoleta.
Day 3. Fiesta gaucha Full-day excursion to an estancia for a typical barbeque lunch and a folklore/gaucho show. Here we will learn about the customs of the Argentinean gaucho and his abilities on the horse that will leave you breathless. The meat will be cooked “a lo gaucho,” outdoors on the barbeque. Lunch and drinks included. Afternoon, return to Buenos Aires.
Day 4. Day of leisure in Buenos Aires Evening tango show. At night, you will be treated to an unforgettable tango show performed by the best dancers and singers, while enjoying a delicious meal. This is the perfect way to leave Buenos Aires, the city of tango. Return to the hotel.
Day 5. Morning, transfer to the airport to take the flight to Bariloche. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. Afternoon, free to enjoy Bariloche and its fabulous views of the Andes across the blue waters of Lake Nahuel Huapi. Bariloche is surrounded by evergreen forests, snow-capped peaks, deep blue or transparent green lakes, spring flowers and alpine architecture.
Day 6. Lago Todos Los Santos In the morning, we will drive along the southern shore of the lake toward Enseneda. We will make a few stops, upon your request, to allow you to take pictures of the amazing views as we approach Osorno Volcano. We will make a stop at Saltos de Petrohue, where a series of rapids and waterfalls were formed by the cooling lava from the volcano.
Upon arriving at the landing at Petrohue, we will board the catamaran and prepare for our crossing of Lago Todos los Santos. As we pull away from the landing and the source of the River Petrohue, the view is quickly stolen away by the tremendous size and proximity of ice-capped Volcan Osorno behind us.
To the south, high above the forested shore you will see the peculiar shape of Volcan Puntiagudo and a series of waterfalls high in the cordillera. Around lunchtime, we will arrive at Peulla at the eastern end of the lake. This is the heart of National Park Vicente Perez Rosales. Here we will enjoy a lovely hike to the Cascada de la Novia or the Bride’s Waterfall amidst the native-growth Valdivian Rainforest. In the late afternoon, we return by catamaran to Petrohue and by motor coach to Puerto Varas.
Day 7. Full-day visit to Ancud in Chiloe Depart from Puerto Varas early in the morning and drive to Pargua, where the ferry goes to the “big island” of Chiloe. Pass through Chacao and Caulin, where there is much bird life and where you can savor a plate of local oysters. Continue to Ancud, the largest town on the north of the island. Visit the main square and the Chile Tour museum, which has a picture display of the history of Chile plus the myths and legends for which the island is famous. Continue past the Gulf of Quitalmahue to the fort of San Antonio. Time for lunch and in the afternoon, visit Huaihuén Hill for a beautiful view of the town and its surroundings. Return to Puerto Varas and transfer to your hotel.
Day 8. Morning, free to enjoy the peace and tranquility of Puerto Varas and Lago Llanquihue. Afternoon, transfer back to the airport to take the flight to Santiago. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.
Bariloche
Day 9. City tour of Santiago A journey through the main streets of Santiago, viewing the neoclassical Moneda Palace, built in the 18th century and current seat of government, the Plaza de Armas, or main square with its cathedral, the Museum of National History and the Central Post Office, all with very different architectural styles. Continue to the Parque Forestal, based on the Champs d’Elysee in Paris, the Fine Arts Museum and Santa Lucia Hill, where the city was founded in 1541. Continue to the bohemian area of Bellavista and climb San Cristobal Hill for a panoramic view of the city with the Andes Mountains in the background. The tour finishes with a visit to the handicraft village of Los Graneros del Alba (closed Mondays; an alternative is chosen). Return to your hotel.
Day 10. Full day of touring around Santiago. On this day, you may choose from one of the following excursions: Vina del Mar and Valparaiso; Valle Nevado; Isla Negra - Pablo Neruda Museum; Cousiño Macul and Concha y Toro wineries.
Day 11. Morning of leisure in Santiago - transfer to the airport to board your international flight this evening.
Day 12. USA or Canada- Connect with your homebound flight.
